What to know first
A feed-in tariff is what your retailer pays for solar power you send to the grid. In most of the national market there is no regulated minimum, so each retailer sets its own rate and they vary widely.
Many retailers now pay more for exports in the late afternoon and evening than at midday, when the grid is flooded with solar. Those time-varying rates are shown separately from flat rates.
The highest rate is often on a plan with a higher usage price. Every kWh of your own solar you use saves the full usage rate, which is worth several times a feed-in tariff, so a cheap usage rate can matter more than a high export rate.

Feed-in rate is only half the story
A high feed-in tariff often comes with a higher usage rate or supply charge. Every kWh you use from your panels is worth your full usage rate, so homes that use most of their solar can do better on a plan with a low usage rate. See our feed-in tariffs by state.
How these prices were worked out
Every price on this page comes from the plans retailers publish to the AER's Energy Made Easy data under the Consumer Data Right, as at 14 October 2026. We price flat-rate (single rate) plans that any household in the area can sign up for, at 2,500, 4,000, 6,500 kWh a year, including GST, the daily supply charge and guaranteed discounts. Conditional discounts, such as for paying on time, are left out. Plans limited to members, existing customers or homes with particular equipment are excluded. Retailers with wholesale-linked prices are listed separately, not ranked.
Prices change, sometimes weekly. Always confirm the current price on the retailer's plan fact sheet or a government comparison site before you switch. Our switching guide covers the steps.
Common questions
Origin Energy lists the highest flat feed-in tariff we found, 12c per kWh, as at 14 October 2026. Solstice Energy is next at 11c. The highest rates are usually only available in some networks and on particular plans.
Not always. Plans with high feed-in tariffs often charge more for the power you buy. Solar you use yourself saves the full usage rate, so a home that uses most of its own solar can come out ahead on a plan with a low usage rate and a modest feed-in tariff.
