How to work out electricity costs

  1. Find the kWh

From your bill, divide total kWh by the days in the period. For one appliance, multiply its watts by the hours used and divide by 1,000.

  2. Find your rate

Your usage rate is on your bill in cents per kWh. On time of use, use an average or the rate for when you use it.

  3. Multiply

kWh × rate gives the cost. Multiply by 365 for a yearly figure.
