Finding the cheapest electricity in South Australia

SA Power Networks supplies every home on the grid in South Australia, which makes comparison simpler than in states with several networks. The same plans and prices apply from Adelaide to Mount Gambier.

South Australia has some of the highest electricity prices in the national market, so the gap between the cheapest plan and the Default Market Offer is worth hundreds of dollars a year. It also has one of the highest shares of homes with rooftop solar, so check feed-in tariffs if you export.

How to get the best price

  1. Find your network

It is on your bill as the distributor. Prices differ a lot between networks.

  2. Use a year of your own usage

Add up the kWh on four quarterly bills, or download your smart meter data.

  3. Check the full plan

Look at the supply charge, usage rate, feed-in tariff and any conditions on the fact sheet.

  4. Compare on the government site

Energy Made Easy lists every generally available plan and prices it on your usage.

  5. Ask your current retailer first

Your bill's better offer message may already point to a cheaper plan.

Wholesale-linked retailers such as Amber Electric and Flow Power are not ranked because their prices follow the wholesale market, so their published rates are only estimates.

How these prices were worked out

Every price on this page comes from the plans retailers publish to the AER's Energy Made Easy data under the Consumer Data Right, as at 14 October 2026. We price flat-rate (single rate) plans that any household in the area can sign up for, at 2,500, 4,000, 6,500 kWh a year, including GST, the daily supply charge and guaranteed discounts. Conditional discounts, such as for paying on time, are left out. Plans limited to members, existing customers or homes with particular equipment are excluded. Retailers with wholesale-linked prices are listed separately, not ranked.

Prices change, sometimes weekly. Always confirm the current price on the retailer's plan fact sheet or a government comparison site before you switch. Our switching guide covers the steps.
