About the Seniors Energy Rebate

The Seniors Energy Rebate fills a gap. Many self-funded retirees hold a Commonwealth Seniors Health Card but not a Pensioner Concession Card, so they cannot get the Low Income Household Rebate. This rebate gives them $200 a year instead.

It is paid straight into your bank account rather than credited to your bill, so it arrives the same way whoever your retailer is.

You cannot receive it if you already get the Low Income Household Rebate. If you hold both a pension card and a seniors health card, the Low Income Household Rebate is usually worth more.

Who can get it

  • You are named on the electricity account for your home.
  • You hold a valid Commonwealth Seniors Health Card.
  • You do not receive the Low Income Household Rebate.

Moving or switching retailer?

Concessions applied by your retailer do not always move with you. When you move house or switch, give your card details to the new retailer and check the next bill. See how to claim a concession.
