About the Heating Allowance
The Heating Allowance is $56 a year, paid in two instalments of $28. It is paid under the Pensioners (Heating Allowances) Act 1971, so it is one of the longest-running energy payments in the country.
It is tightly means tested. A single pensioner can have no more than $1,750 in cash assets, and a couple no more than $2,750, along with other conditions.
It sits alongside the Annual Electricity Concession, which is worth far more, so make sure that is on your account first.
