About the Medical Cooling and Heating Electricity Concession Scheme
From 1 July 2026 the concession is worth $522.09 a year including GST. It is designed for chronic conditions where cooling or heating stops symptoms becoming significantly worse.
Qualifying conditions include multiple sclerosis, autonomic system dysfunction, loss of skin integrity or sweating capacity, and severe loss of function or hypersensitivity at temperature extremes. A medical specialist must certify the condition.
You can receive it on top of the Electricity Rebate, so an eligible household gets $921.56 a year between the two. In group homes, each eligible person on a shared account can apply separately.
Who can get it
- You live in Queensland and have, or care for a minor with, a chronic condition that is made significantly worse by heat or cold, such as multiple sclerosis or autonomic system dysfunction.
- Your home has an air conditioner or heater.
- The applicant or guardian holds a Pensioner Concession Card or Health Care Card and is responsible for paying the electricity bill.
