About the Supercharged Solar for Renters
The rebate depends on system size: $2,500 for 3 kW to under 4 kW, $3,000 for 4 kW to under 5 kW, and $3,500 for 5 kW or more. It is the lesser of that amount and the cost of the system.
The Queensland Government expects the program to help about 6,500 households save around $700 a year on electricity, depending on where they live and the size of the system.
Tenants are protected: the lease submitted for final approval must have at least 8 months left, and the rent cannot be higher than at conditional approval unless the earlier lease already set out the increase.
Applications are assessed in order of receipt, and QRIDA must refuse an application if there is not enough funding left.
Who can get it
- You own a rental home in Queensland as an individual and live in Australia. Trusts, self-managed super funds and companies cannot apply.
- The home is a house, townhouse, duplex or granny flat (a Class 1a building), not an apartment, and has its own electricity meter.
- It has no solar system, is not in an embedded network, and you do not live in any part of it.
- Rent is $1,000 a week or less and the tenant pays some or all of the electricity account.
- The tenant gives written consent on the program's form, and the body corporate approves where there is one.
- You can apply for up to three rental homes.

How to apply
- Get a quote from a New Energy Tech Approved Seller for a system of at least 3 kW with a generation signalling device.
- Apply to QRIDA for conditional approval with the quote, the current lease and the tenant's consent. Do not install before approval.
- Within 150 days, install the system and sign a new lease with at least 8 months to run and rent no higher than at conditional approval.
- Submit the final application to QRIDA.
How it is paid: Paid to the landlord after final approval, not to the retailer or installer.

Moving or switching retailer?
Concessions applied by your retailer do not always move with you. When you move house or switch, give your card details to the new retailer and check the next bill. See how to claim a concession.
