About the Electricity Life Support Concession

The concession pays $1,063.30 a year for each oxygen concentrator and $712.07 a year for each kidney dialysis machine. It is calculated monthly and paid into your bank account each quarter, rather than credited to your bill.

It is tied to how the machine was supplied. Oxygen concentrators must come free through the Medical Aids Subsidy Scheme, and dialysis machines free through a Queensland Health hospital. Privately sourced machines and CPAP machines are not covered.

Registering as a life support household with your retailer is a separate step, and worth doing even if you do not qualify for the payment, because it means you are contacted about outages.

Who can get it

  • Oxygen concentrator users: the machine is supplied free through the Medical Aids Subsidy Scheme, you have been assessed under its criteria, and you hold a Pensioner Concession Card, Health Care Card, Health Care Interim Voucher, Child Disability Allowance or Queensland Seniors Card.
  • Kidney dialysis users: the home machine is supplied free through a Queensland Health hospital.
  • Machines not supplied by the scheme or Queensland Health, and CPAP machines, are not eligible.

Moving or switching retailer?

Concessions applied by your retailer do not always move with you. When you move house or switch, give your card details to the new retailer and check the next bill. See how to claim a concession.
