About the Energy Bill Concession
The concession is worth up to $291.27 a year, indexed each financial year and applied as a flat daily rate, so the amount on each bill depends on how many days it covers. It also covers fuels used to generate energy, such as bottled LPG.
Eligibility is wider than in most states. As well as concession cards, it is open to people receiving JobSeeker, Youth Allowance, Parenting Payment, Special Benefit, Austudy, ABSTUDY and several other payments, and the Commonwealth Seniors Health Card qualifies.
Once you have it, you can also take up the SA Concessions Energy Discount Offer with Origin, and may qualify for the Medical Heating and Cooling Concession on top.
Who can get it
- You live at the property.
- The energy account is in your name and you are listed first on the bill.
- You hold a Pensioner Concession Card, Low Income Health Care Card, Commonwealth Seniors Health Card or an eligible Veteran Gold Card, or receive an eligible Centrelink payment such as JobSeeker, Youth Allowance, Parenting Payment, Austudy or ABSTUDY.
| Card or payment | Eligible |

How to apply
- Apply online with ConcessionsSA. The same form covers four household concessions.
- Have your Centrelink Customer Reference Number or DVA file number, your latest electricity bill (retailer, account number, NMI and billing dates), your water bill and bank details ready.
- If you cannot apply online, download the paper form or ask ConcessionsSA to post one.
How it is paid: As a credit on your electricity bill for owners and private tenants. Residential park residents and people without a retailer bill get quarterly bank payments.
Contact: ConcessionsSA, 1800 307 758. Official information.
Moving or switching retailer?
Concessions applied by your retailer do not always move with you. When you move house or switch, give your card details to the new retailer and check the next bill. See how to claim a concession.
