About the Home Energy Support Program

The program pays two separate rebates. One covers 50% of the supply and installation of rooftop solar, up to $2,500. The other covers 50% of reverse-cycle heating and cooling, a heat pump hot water system or evacuated tube solar hot water, also up to $2,500.

It is aimed at lower-income homeowners: you need a Pensioner Concession Card, DVA Gold Card or Health Care Card, and the property's unimproved value must be at or below $750,000, or $300,000 for an apartment in a multi-storey building.

Every applicant first attends a free online Everyday Climate Choices workshop. Reverse-cycle heating is a big saving in Canberra, where winter heating dominates bills.
