WA Gas Prices for 2026-27: The Regulated Maximum Tariffs

Unlike the eastern states, WA caps what retailers can charge households for gas on standard contracts. Here are the 2026-27 caps and how to read them.

How gas is priced in Western Australia

The WA Government sets maximum prices for small gas customers, those using less than one terajoule a year, on the main distribution systems: Perth from Gingin to Busselton, the Mid West and South West, Kalgoorlie-Boulder, Albany, Geraldton and Carnamah. The caps apply to standard form contracts; retailers can offer market contracts below them. They do not apply to the LPG networks in Margaret River, Leinster and Esperance, or to bottled gas.

Who runs WA's gas network

The pipes are run by ATCO Gas Australia. For gas leaks call ATCO on 13 13 52. The AER does not publish gas usage benchmarks for WA, so the table below uses example daily usage.

Worked from Energy Policy WA's 2026-27 Mid-West and South-West caps: 27.61c a day supply, 19.06c a unit for the first 12 units a day and 17.20c above that. Example usage levels; one unit is 3.6 MJ.

Retailers can offer market contracts priced below the caps, so ask for discounts off the standard tariff. If you think a retailer is charging above the regulated tariff, the Energy and Water Ombudsman WA can help.
