About Horizon Power

Horizon Power is owned by the Western Australian Government. It supplies electricity to homes in regional and remote WA outside the south-west interconnected system, from Esperance in the south to Broome and the Kimberley in the north.

Under the state's uniform tariff policy, Horizon Power households pay the same residential price as Synergy customers in Perth, even though supplying remote towns costs far more.

Under the state's uniform tariff policy, Horizon Power and Synergy charge the same household rate, so a home in Broome pays the same price per kWh as one in Perth.

Synergy also sells a Midday Saver plan with a cheap rate from 9am to 3pm, a higher peak rate from 3pm to 9pm, and an off-peak rate overnight. See our peak and off-peak times guide.

Can you switch away from Horizon Power?

No. Western Australia's household market was never opened to competition, so the retailer is set by where you live. What you can choose is the tariff.

Solar feed-in tariff

Synergy DEBS buyback: 10c for exports between 3pm and 9pm, 2c at other times. Last confirmed by Energy Policy WA; check Synergy for any change. At 2-10c per kWh, using your own solar is worth far more than exporting it, because every kWh you use from your panels saves the full 33.26c usage rate.

How to pay less with Horizon Power

  1. Claim the WA Energy Assistance Payment

$377.14 a year for Pensioner Concession, Health Care, Commonwealth Seniors Health and DVA Gold Card holders. See our concessions guide.

  2. Check your tariff

If you can move usage into cheaper hours, a time-of-use tariff may cost less than the flat rate.

  3. Cut the big loads

Heating, cooling and hot water use the most. Our guide to reducing your bill ranks the changes by what they save.
