How a WA electricity bill adds up
Most Western Australian homes buy power from Synergy on Home Plan A1, a single flat rate set by the state government. For 2026-27 it is 33.26c/kWh plus $1.19 a day, and Horizon Power charges the same rates in regional WA. That makes WA one of the simplest states to estimate: one rate, one supply charge.
| Usage1,000 kWh × 33.26c | $332.62 |
|---|---|
| Daily supply91 days × $1.1924 | $108.51 |
| Total for the quarter | $441.13 |
WA bills are usually issued every two months rather than quarterly. Use the exact number of days on your bill: a 61-day bill with 670 kWh costs about $296 on Home Plan A1.
Getting the estimate to match your WA bill
- Check your plan name. If your bill does not say Home Plan A1, you may be on a daytime or EV plan. Use the "my own rates" option and enter its rates.
- Solar buyback. Synergy pays 10c/kWh for exports between 3pm and 9pm and 2c at other times under the DEBS. Enter a blended rate from your bill, or the 2c rate if most of your exports are at midday.
- Energy Assistance Payment. Eligible card holders get $377.14 a year in 2026-27, which is not taken off the estimate.
Why a WA bill is easy to check
With one retailer and one regulated price on most homes, any difference between your bill and the estimate for the same usage and days usually comes down to solar credits, concessions or a different Synergy plan.
Ways to bring a WA bill down
- Pick the right Synergy plan. You cannot change retailer on the Perth grid, but a plan with cheaper daytime power can suit homes that use power during the day.
- Use your own solar. Exports at midday earn about 2c, while power bought back at night costs 33.26c, so a battery or shifting usage to daytime is worth more than exporting. See the Cheaper Home Batteries Program.
- Watch the air conditioner. In a Perth summer, cooling is usually the biggest driver of a high bill.
Questions about WA electricity bills
On Synergy Home Plan A1 for 2026-27, 1,000 kWh over 91 days costs about $441, supply included. Most WA bills cover about two months, so a typical bill shows fewer days and less usage than a quarterly bill in other states.
Synergy Home Plan A1 for 2026-27: 33.26c/kWh plus a supply charge of $1.19 a day, including GST. Horizon Power charges the same on its A2 tariff in regional WA. Use the "my own rates" option if you are on a different plan.
Synergy usually bills every two months. Enter the number of days printed on your bill rather than using the quarter button, because the supply charge is added for every day in the billing period.
Open the solar section and enter the kWh exported and your buyback rate. Under the DEBS, Synergy pays 10c/kWh between 3pm and 9pm and 2c at other times. Most rooftop solar exports at midday, so the 2c rate covers most households without a battery.
No. The payment is $377.14 a year in 2026-27 for eligible card holders. Take a share of it off the estimate for the days in your billing period, about $63 on a 61-day bill.
No. Households on the South West Interconnected System can only buy from Synergy. The way to save is choosing the Synergy plan that matches when you use power, and using more of your own solar.
