About Power and Water Corporation
Power and Water is owned by the Northern Territory Government. Its regulated networks serve about 87,000 customers on three separate systems: Darwin and Katherine share one, and Alice Springs and Tennant Creek each run their own.
The Northern Territory is not connected to the national grid, but the AER regulates Power and Water's network revenue in the same way as networks in the eastern states.
Power and Water has one 24-hour line for faults and outages and a separate emergency number for dangerous situations such as a powerline on the ground. Remote communities have their own contact line.
Owner: Owned by the Northern Territory Government.

What Power and Water means for your bill
Network charges are built into your retailer's usage rate and daily supply charge. The AER found network charges were up to 46% of a residential bill in 2024. On the Regulated tariff (Jacana Energy) for the Power and Water area in 2026-27, the price is 31.68c per kWh and $0.62 a day, about $1,495 a year at 4,000 kWh.
Households here cannot shop around for a cheaper network, and retail prices are set by the government. See Northern Territory electricity rates for every tariff.
