Who to call in New South Wales

Which number you call depends on where you live. Ausgrid covers Sydney's east, north and inner suburbs, the Central Coast and the Hunter. Endeavour Energy covers Western Sydney, the Blue Mountains, the Southern Highlands, the Illawarra and the South Coast. Essential Energy covers the rest of the state.

All three publish live outage maps showing the cause and estimated restoration time. Check the map first. If your outage is not listed, report it by phone or online so a crew can be sent.

NSW networks follow the National Energy Retail Rules, so planned outages need at least four business days' notice, and life support customers must get written notice.

Your rights during outages

In New South Wales, networks must give at least four business days' notice of planned outages under the National Energy Retail Rules, and written notice to registered life support customers. See planned outages.

Compensation

Long or repeated outages may qualify for a payment, and you may be able to claim for damage caused by a network fault. See power outage compensation.

Common questions

It depends on your suburb. Ausgrid (13 13 88) covers the eastern, northern and inner suburbs, and Endeavour Energy (131 003) covers Western Sydney. Your bill shows which network supplies you.

Each network runs its own: Ausgrid, Endeavour Energy and Essential Energy all publish live outage maps on their websites, with restoration estimates.

NSW networks must meet guaranteed service levels, and customers who suffer very long or frequent outages may be eligible for a payment. See our guide to power outage compensation.
