About Ergon Energy Network

Two businesses share the Ergon name. Ergon Energy Network owns the poles and wires, and Ergon Energy Queensland is the retailer that supplies most regional homes at prices set by the Queensland Competition Authority. Both are part of the state-owned Energy Queensland.

The network has about 154,000 kilometres of line serving roughly 792,000 customers, so it covers vast distances with few customers per kilometre. Some remote communities are supplied by isolated systems that are not connected to the main grid.

Ergon has the highest share of homes on cost-reflective network tariffs of any Queensland network: about half of residential customers in 2024, according to the AER.

Owner: Part of Energy Queensland, which is owned by the Queensland Government.

Check Ergon's current outages first. If your outage is not listed, report it by phone or online. If only your home is affected, check your switchboard: see power out in your house.

For planned work, Ergon must give you at least four business days' notice under the National Energy Retail Rules, and written notice if you are registered for life support. See planned outages.

Treat any fallen line as live. Stay well back, call 000 if anyone is in danger, then call Ergon. See fallen powerline safety.

What Ergon means for your bill

Network charges are built into your retailer's usage rate and daily supply charge. The AER found network charges were up to 46% of a residential bill in 2024. On the regulated standing offer for the Ergon area in 2026-27, the price is 28.89c per kWh and $1.81 a day, about $1,815 a year at 4,000 kWh.

Retailers compete in this network. As at 14 October 2026, the cheapest generally available flat-rate plan was Origin Energy's Origin Basic, at about $1,815 a year for 4,000 kWh. See the full ranking.
