What to know first
An EV plan is usually a time-of-use plan with a very cheap rate in a set window, overnight or in the middle of the day, when you are expected to charge. Some require you to register your vehicle or charger.
The cheap window is only half the plan. The peak rate is often higher than on a standard plan, so an EV plan pays off when you can do most of your charging and other heavy usage in the cheap hours.
To see what it is worth, multiply your charging by the gap in rates. As an example, 2,000 kWh of charging a year at 10c instead of 30c per kWh saves $400. Then check what the plan charges for everything else you use, because a higher peak rate can eat into that saving.

How these prices were worked out
Every price on this page comes from the plans retailers publish to the AER's Energy Made Easy data under the Consumer Data Right, as at 14 October 2026. We price flat-rate (single rate) plans that any household in the area can sign up for, at 2,500, 4,000, 6,500 kWh a year, including GST, the daily supply charge and guaranteed discounts. Conditional discounts, such as for paying on time, are left out. Plans limited to members, existing customers or homes with particular equipment are excluded. Retailers with wholesale-linked prices are listed separately, not ranked.
Prices change, sometimes weekly. Always confirm the current price on the retailer's plan fact sheet or a government comparison site before you switch. Our switching guide covers the steps.
Common questions
Flow Power, ENGIE and OVO Energy published plans marketed for electric vehicle owners as at 14 October 2026.
No. You can charge on any plan. An EV plan only helps if its cheap window matches when you charge and the higher peak rate does not cost you more on the rest of your usage.
It depends on the plan. Some use overnight hours and others the middle of the day, when solar makes power cheap. The plan fact sheet lists the exact times.
It can be, but daytime charging from your own panels is often cheaper still. If your car is home during the day, compare an EV plan with a plan that has a good midday rate or a Solar Sharer window.
