Charging tips

  1. Charge at room temperature

Lithium batteries charge best indoors, away from heat and cold.

  2. Use the charger that came with the bike

Third-party chargers can be a fire risk.

  3. Charge in cheap hours if it is easy

The saving is small, but midday solar or off-peak charging costs even less.

Battery safety

Do not charge damaged or swollen batteries, do not leave e-bikes charging unattended for long periods, and keep them out of exit paths. For car charging, see our EV charging cost calculator.

Questions about e-bike charging costs

About 18c for a full charge of a 500 Wh battery on the Ausgrid reference rate.

A full charge uses roughly the battery size plus a little for charging losses. A 500 Wh battery takes a little over 0.5 kWh.

In energy cost, by a very wide margin. An e-bike uses a small fraction of the energy of a car per kilometre, electric or petrol.
