SolarEdge Inverters and Power Optimisers in Australia Today

SolarEdge pairs a central inverter with an optimiser on each panel, giving panel-level control and monitoring without putting inverters on the roof.

Checked against official and industry sources, October 2026

About SolarEdge Technologies

SolarEdge popularised the optimiser approach. Each optimiser tunes its panel and reports its output, so shade on one panel has less effect on the rest, and you get panel-level monitoring.

Optimisers also allow panel-level rapid shutdown, reducing the DC voltage on the roof when the system is turned off.

SolarEdge strengths and trade-offs

Strengths

SolarEdge
  • Panel-level monitoring and optimisation
  • Longer standard inverter warranty than most string inverters
  • Battery option on the Home Hub

Trade-offs

Consider
  • Optimisers add cost and parts on the roof
  • Battery choice is limited to compatible SolarEdge products

Usually suits:

  • Partly shaded roofs
  • Buyers wanting panel monitoring with a central inverter

Common questions

It tunes each panel to its best operating point and reports its output, so a shaded or dirty panel has less effect on the others and you can monitor every panel.

SolarEdge quotes 12 years on its inverters and 25 years on its power optimisers, with paid extensions available for many inverters.

Both give panel-level control. SolarEdge keeps one inverter on the wall with optimisers on the roof; Enphase puts a microinverter on each panel. Enphase has the longer inverter warranty, SolarEdge the simpler battery hybrid.
