What a BPID shows
- The plan name, the retailer and the plan ID, a unique code from Energy Made Easy.
- Usage rates and the daily supply charge, and how the retailer can change them.
- Discounts, and the conditions attached to them.
- Fees, the contract length and any benefit period.
- A link to the Detailed Plan Information Document, with the full plan terms.
The rules set standard terms, too: a plan must say "supply charge", not standing charge, and "guaranteed discount", not unconditional discount, so plans can be compared line by line.
When you must be given one
| How you are offered a plan | What the retailer must do |
|---|---|
| On a website | Show a prominent link labelled "Basic Plan Information" |
| Online sign-up | Give a link to the BPID as an early step |
| By phone | Tell you it exists and send it within five business days on request |
| Door to door | Hand you a BPID at the time |
| Advertising with prices | Say where the BPID can be found |
| Special or "save" plans | Tell you a BPID is available and provide it on request |
A retailer cannot demand personal details before giving you the BPID, apart from what it needs to work out your network and meter type.
How to use it
