How a Tasmanian electricity bill adds up
Most Tasmanian homes buy from Aurora Energy, and Aurora names its tariffs by number. The calculator includes the two current residential options: Tariff 32, the standard single rate, and Tariff 93, the peak and off-peak tariff. Pick the one printed on your bill.
| Usage1,000 kWh × 24.75c | $247.50 |
|---|---|
| Daily supply91 days × $1.82 | $165.62 |
| Total for the quarter | $413.12 |
Tariff 32 has the lowest flat usage rate in the country at 24.75c/kWh, but a daily charge of $1.82, so about $166 of every quarterly bill is supply before any power is used.
Pricing a Tariff 93 bill
Choose Tariff 93 in the network list and the calculator switches to peak and off-peak pricing. Peak is 36.19c/kWh on weekdays from 7am to 10am and 4pm to 9pm in standard time, an hour later in daylight saving. Every other hour, and all weekend, is off-peak at 17.02c. Set the peak share to match the peak and off-peak lines on your bill.
Is Tariff 93 cheaper for you?
With 45% of usage in peak hours, 4,000 kWh a year costs about $1,655 on Tariff 93 and $1,654 on Tariff 32, almost exactly the same. Move more usage onto weekends, overnight or the middle of weekdays and Tariff 93 pulls ahead. Use more on weekday mornings and evenings and Tariff 32 wins.
Getting the estimate to match your Tasmanian bill
- Older tariffs. If your bill shows Tariff 31 and Tariff 41, choose "my own rates" and enter 27.95c plus $1.68 a day for Tariff 31. Add Tariff 41 usage in the controlled load section at 21.12c.
- Off-peak hot water. Tariff 62 usage can go in the controlled load section at 14.02c.
- Solar. Tasmania's regulated feed-in tariff for 2026-27 is 9.276c/kWh, which the calculator loads by default.
- Concession. The Annual Electricity Concession, about $673 a year, is not taken off the estimate.
