How an ACT electricity bill adds up
Every Canberra home is on the Evoenergy network, so the calculator has one starting point: the ActewAGL standard plan regulated by the ICRC. For 2026-27 it is 36.95c/kWh at all times plus $1.34 a day, including GST.
| Usage1,000 kWh × 36.95c | $369.54 |
|---|---|
| Daily supply91 days × $1.342 | $122.12 |
| Total for the quarter | $491.66 |
The ICRC bases its average ACT household on 6,500 kWh a year. On the standing offer that comes to about $2,892 a year, or roughly $723 a quarter, which shows how quickly winter heating adds up in Canberra.
Getting the estimate to match your ACT bill
- You are probably on a market offer. Fewer than one in five ACT households are on the regulated standing offer. Use "my own rates" and copy the usage rate and supply charge from your bill.
- Time-of-use plans. ActewAGL's peak runs 7am to 9am and 5pm to 8pm daily. Enter a blended rate from the peak and off-peak lines on your bill.
- Solar. The ACT has no regulated minimum feed-in tariff, so enter the rate printed on your bill.
- Rebate. The $800 Electricity, Gas and Water Rebate is not taken off the estimate.
Comparing against the standing offer
Price your usage on the standing offer first, then on your own rates. The difference is what your market offer is saving you. If it is small or negative, it is time to compare plans.

Reverse cycle air conditioners are the most efficient electric option, using far less power than plug-in fan or bar heaters for the same warmth. Compare your winter and summer usage lines to see the difference.
